from the Guardian staff at, article published on Sunday August 10 2008

Spain’s Basketball Federation has published a good luck advert for their men’s team, the world champions, in which they stand pulling at the sides of their eyes in a slit-eyed gesture.

There is no obvious intention to upset their Olympic hosts in Beijing, but the irresponsible picture is likely to cause controversy and could be interpreted so as to lead to accusations of racism.

Don Nelson Will Leave a $6.3 Million Dollar Scar On Mark Cuban’s Butt

Posted by Admin in News, Pictures

An arbitrator ruled today that Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban must immediately pay Don Nelson $6.3 million, over the former Dallas coach’s compensation package.

Nelson, now the Golden State Warriors’ coach, claimed the money was owed to him from his time with the Mavericks from 1997-2005. The arbitrator, retired Judge Glen M. Ashworth, also rejected Cuban’s claim that Nelson used “confidential information” to help the Warriors upset the top-seeded Mavs in the first round of the 2007 playoffs.

While the matter was resolved Thursday when the ruling was handed down, there are still plenty of hard feelings.

Don Nelson told
“It was kind of a silly case. It’s like a pimple on his behind, but $6-plus million is a big number for me. I don’t feel like I’ve won the lottery because I’ve already earned that money, but it’s good to know I’m going to get it.”

With that statement from Nelson in mind, I now leave you with this image…

Paul Pierce: ‘I don’t think Kobe is the best player. I’m the best player.’

Posted by Admin in News

Paul Pierce was in Spain for the past few days and everyone’s buzzing about what he said over there.  I think it’s a big pile of nothing… but since there seems to be some reaction to it… here it is.

First… a bunch of Spurs fans are all hot and bothered by this.

Q: Is Kobe really the best player in the world?

Pierce: I don’t think Kobe is the best player. I’m the best player. There’s a line that separates having confidence and being conceited. I don’t cross that line but I have a lot of confidence in myself.

Q: Who are your top five favorite players in the NBA today?

Pierce: Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, Rajon Rondo, Kendrick Perkins and Paul Pierce.

There are some insane reactions in that link… people just being idiots.  But what is he supposed to say?  His favorite players are his teammates.  Perfect answer… and he loves himself too.

Charles Barkley Pays for Busboy’s Tuition

Posted by Admin in News

Charles Barkley is giving up his money again. You’re thinking ‘oh no, is he gambling?’. No, not this time. Sir Charles will be paying for Christian Abate’s remaining tuition to Temple University.

Sir Charles told Abate he would like to help him with his tuition, and Abate wasn’t sure how to respond. Barkley didn’t give him much time, telling Abate that he had the length of Barkley’s meal to decide. Abate wisely accepted.

“He’s a nice kid,” Barkley said of Abate on Friday. “He was working with kids, I loved that he wanted to be a teacher, and I wanted to help him,” Barkley told us by phone between stops on a flight to Reno where he was making a speech.

When we joked to Barkley that people were going to be calling him today asking for money, he said “People always call me asking for money, and Christian never asked, which is why I wanted to help him out.”

Abate says he will be forever grateful to Barkley who is “giving me a second shot at doing something with my life.”

Full of Hype: Kobe ‘McFly’ Hyperdunks

Posted by Admin in Kicks, News, Pictures

Check out this eBay search listing of the new Nike Marty McFly 2015 Hyperdunks.

They are being sold for $1,100 and upwards (I’ve seen a listing go as high as $1600). What are people thinking?! In my opinion it’s not worth it since the Nikes in Back To The Future II had self-lacing technology AND dried itself when wet.

Why are the prices so sky high? 2 reasons….a very limited supply (only 350 pairs made) and KOBE.

Checkout pics from a recent Nike-sponsored event in Santa Monica.

9. Shaquille O’neal – 13.6 pts. 9.1 rebs. SALARY: $21,000,000
Shaq is no longer “The Diesel”, ok. Shaq should not be making more than Kobe for his OK stats.

8. Kenyon Martin – 12.4 pts. 6.5 rebs. SALARY: $13,250,000

Kenyon, in New Jersey should’ve been making this money, but not now!

7. Jermaine O’neal – 13.6 pts. 6.7 rebs. SALARY: $19,728,000

6. Eddy Curry – 13.2 pts. 4.7 rebs. SALARY: $8,997,543

This is one of the busts on my list. He’s passing up Dwight Howard and Deron Williams on the “Bling” List.

5. Ben Wallace – 4.8 pts. 8.4 rebs. SALARY: $15,500,000

Former 2-time Defensive Player of the Year still making Defensive Player of the Year money. He should be making much for 5 points per game, I don’t care how much of a Defensive presence you are.

4. Stephon Marbury – 13.9 pts. 4.7 asts. SALARY: $19,012,500

He not only holds #4 on this list, but he also owns the “Worst Team Player” award. Congrats to You Steph!

Phil Jackson Blames Turkeys and Booty Shorts for Regular Season Losses to the Celtics

Posted by Admin in Lakers, News

“I think we had Thanksgiving Thursday here, played on Friday. We were full of turkey,” Lakers Coach Phil Jackson said today. “The game in late December was much more reflective of the team. However, we wore those short shorts that night and lost our attitude early in the game. I think the guys got a little tight.”

The Lakers arrived here late Tuesday night and participated in a heavily attended media session this afternoon before practicing at TD Banknorth Garden.

Game 1 in the NBA Finals is Thursday.

Good thing there’s no major holiday right before the game. And no ‘throwback’ games…please.
