Salt Lake Tribune beat writer Brian Smith reported that former Utah Jazz point guard Deron Williams learned he was traded to New Jersey on SportsCenter while in the training room.

Truth is stranger than fiction. I was joking in my previous post and it was much closer to reality than I thought. Jazz front office didn’t even call Deron or his agent. Cold-blooded. Or Karma depending on who you side with. On one hand, DWill seem to be out of control. He needed an ego check. On the other hand, this is not how you treat your franchise player, the face of your organization for the past six years. All I know is somewhere out there on his farm, Jerry Sloan is smirking.

Deron Williams was sitting at home watching TV and found out he was traded to New Jersey. That’s not exactly what happened but the reaction was probably the same. Williams didn’t expect this trade. Nor did anyone that wasn’t following trade rumors. Even then, it appeared NJ wanted Andre Miller or Caron Butler’s contract.

The Jazz knew DWill wouldn’t re-sign with them so this was a good move on their part and avoid the Melo/LeBron drama. And they basically admit to blaming him for Jerry Sloan’s retirement, Jazz have been horrible since Sloan left. The Nets get a better player than Melo but they have a tough case to get DWill to sign an extension with them. With Favors and Murphy gone, they have no post presence to help Brook Lopez. The Nets are obviously lining up cap space for free agent this Summer or next. What they will do with that money is anyone’s guess. They traded their future (Favors and draft picks) to win now. The Nets still don’t know what they’re doing on their court, they’re still lacking identity. Just looking at the roster makes you understand why DWill isn’t happy being traded.

Poor Al Jefferson, just as he’s shipped to a good team it implodes.
