Kevin Garnett injures his calf

Posted by slammo in News

At last night’s game in Detroit, Kevin Garnett suffered a strained calf from a dunk. He needed assistance to walk off the court. Most feared it might be disastrous given the similarity to his last injury in Utah that he’s still recovering from. Fortunately, he’ll only be out a few weeks. Great news for Celtics fans, otherwise it’s deja vu. Boston is looking to be the top team in the East with Miami a very close second. Losing Garnett would put Boston below Orlando as the third best team.

My sources say Charlie Villanueva had a voodoo doll on deck. Villanueva claimed Garnett said he looked like a cancer patient. Garnett denied it, he called him cancerous to his team.

Lamar Odom stylin on Hornets

Posted by slammo in Amazing, Lakers, lamar odom

It’s bad enough the Lakers completely dominated the game against Hornets last night. Odom had to put his unique stamp on the game. Even ice cold blooded Kobe can be seen with a big smile of approval.

Yao on trading block

Posted by slammo in News

Earlier this week, it was reported that the Houston Rockets are looking to trade his expiring contract for draft picks and young players. Thus, ending Yao Ming’s era as the Rockets franchise player. Truly sad news for the big fella. For basketball fans, we’ve all seen this coming. Taller centers typically have shorter, injury-riddled careers. Their bodies are more susceptible to injuries. Gheorghe Muresan only played for 6 seasons. Zydrunas Ilgauskas’ career was always on the verge of ending due to foot problems. Shawn Bradley playing for 12 years is an exception. Besides, he never accomplished anything.

Yao has only played about 7 years. He put further strain on his body by playing in China during Summers. Unlike Muresan and to a certain extent Big Z, Yao was a dominant player in the post; something that’s difficult to mold in bigs. Let’s hope Yao gets to end his career on his terms and not because of injury.

Stan van Gundy hates Hedo Turkoglu

Posted by slammo in Funny

I can only imagine Stan’s reaction when Turk misses his 3s. To be fair to Stan, the first two 3s were ill-advised; the shot clock was at 20 seconds. Besides, who doesn’t hate Turk?

Lakers’ Artest raised more than $500K from raffling his ring

Posted by slammo in News

We all laughed when Ron Artest thanked his psychiatrist after the Lakers won the championship last June. Who knew he’d not only put his championship ring up for a charity raffle but also promote mental health awareness. via Associated Press:

The ring was won by Raymond Mikkael, a father of four from Hawthorne, Calif.

Although he doesn’t yet know the final figures, Artest’s raffle has raised well over $500,000 for his Xcel University charity, which will work with high-risk youth on mental health issues. Artest said he already wrote his first $50,000 check from the proceeds to the charity…

Artest hasn’t satisfied his taste for unorthodox gestures of charity: He also recently said he would like to donate a huge chunk of his $6.79 million salary for next season to mental health charities.

Incredible. Athletes are known to be selfish and give for publicity stunts. Artest seems to genuinely care. The ring meant so much to him. In many ways, it represented his redemption. In an interview after “The Malice at the Palace,” he plugged his upcoming rap album. He was arrogant, self-centered, and cost the Indiana Pacers’ only chance at a championship run. And now he’s a champion and a philanthropist.
